SAFETY: All our toy chests and toy boxes have an approved safety lid-support hinge (American made and tested) which keeps a toy box lid from falling shut. This stay-up feature is no doubt handy when looking for a best-loved toy, but it's really an important safety feature. Our toyboxes/toy chests also have a continuous back hinge (no gaps) and cut-outs along the front top edge to further protect little fingers. All edges are rounded, the lid cannot be accidently locked or latched shut, the bottom of the toybox/toy chest is sturdy solid wood and the cut-outs and hand-holds provide ventilation inside the toy box.

NO TIPPING PLEASE: We do not offer (or recommend) toyboxes with legs. In our experience children are likely to climb on, over and into toyboxes, and even bigger kids will lean or hang over the edge looking for small items. The low center of gravity in our toybox/toy chest design provides better stability.

MATERIALS: Our toyboxes & toy chests are sturdy solid pine, never 'wood products' or byproducts, engineered wood, fiberboard, MDF, veneers or plywood. No bonding agents, glues or resins to give off fumes. All personalization and inscription is hand-lettered in the same safe, water-based paint we use for all our children's furniture - no plastic, stick-on or spray painted lettering, no hobby-grade substances that might not wear as well as the high quality paint we've used for nearly 15 years.

PAINT & FINISHES: About that paint - we use earth friendly, lead-free, non-toxic American brand-name paints and finishes - safer for you, for us, and the planet. All our handpainted designs are topped with multiple coats of a safe, durable clear finish for easy care and years of good looks. We start with top quality materials because we know they are safe and durable.

DETAILS: The backs of our toy chests are painted to match but will not have design details - no flowers, boats, checks, etc. Inscriptions are painted on the back, the surcharge for a short inscription is $10. The interior of our toyboxes & toy chests is not painted, we like the natural wood look and it wears much, much better than a painted interior. These toy boxes are meant to be used.

DIMENSIONS: Our curved top toy chest/Captain's Chest measures 30" wide, 20" deep and 19" high. Our classic toy box (flat lid) is 31" wide, 20" deep and 18" high. Both ship fully assembled.
